Vendor Spotlight: Turntable Books

While many audiophiles will lament the loss of sound quality that came with the decline of vinyl, we say it’s the lost art of the record jacket. Gone are the days of putting on an album, sitting back, and admiring the artwork and photography while you listen to the sounds of your favorite band.

Thankfully, Turntable Books breathes new life into forgotten treasures with their upcycled blank books! Made with care from an amazing variety of old album art, these sleeves get a second chance as the perfect sketchbook for artists, or whatever else you can dream up to do with them.

For the younger crowd, Turntable Books also makes blank books from VHS covers, which to us seem the perfect size to slip into a backpack or shoulder bag. We’ve also got a small selection of books made out of beer boxes from local breweries for the beer lovers with ideas to capture.

Next time you’re in the shop, be sure to flip through these fantastic pieces of nostalgia – even if you’re not in the market for a blank book, the album art alone is worth the look!

I have always had a love for old vintage things that could use a new life instead of being tossed away. I’ve also loved making my own journals and books for the last 20 years. I started Turntable Books 3 years ago taking scratched vinyl records and recycling the covers into book covers. The amazing art, hilarious words and pictures just make me smile and laugh non stop.

I have a blast making these books from start to finish. I carefully trim each cover artistically to keep as much of the originality as possible, then put blank pages and a wire coil binding on it. I have expanded from record album covers to also using VHS covers and beer 6 packs for the covers of my books. I love recycling, reusing, upcycling, and whatever other fancy words you want to label it as. To me, it’s just giving new life to things that would otherwise be discarded.

The covers on my books I think are particularly awesome and I think they definitely should continue to be enjoyed even though their original use is dead. My favorite part of doing this is hearing all the stories and memories the albums stir up in people. The smiles, laughter, and fun trips down memory lane my books give people make it even more fun.

No Vinyl Was Killed In The Making Of These Books!
It’s true, I only use covers from records that have been scratched, damaged, or are no longer usable as a record. I work with a lot of local record stores and take empty covers they receive and records that they can’t sell. I also take unwanted ones from people and if any of the records are good I donate them to local record stores. I love vinyl and promise that no good vinyl was killed in the making of my books. 🙂
